- 2.5 cups all-purpose flour (add more if needed)
- 125 grams butter or margarine (at room temperature)
- 1/2 cup plain yogurt
- 1/4 cup vegetable oil
- 1 egg (yolk for brushing on top, white for the dough)
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 packet baking powder
- 1/2 bunch fresh dill (finely chopped)
- 1 tablespoon white cheese or curd cheese (optional)
For Topping:
- Egg yolk
- Sesame seeds or black cumin seeds (optional)
Instructions:
- Prepare the Dough: In a large mixing bowl, combine the butter, yogurt, vegetable oil, and egg white. Mix well.
- Add Dry Ingredients: Add flour, salt, and baking powder to the mixture. Then add the finely chopped dill and knead into a soft dough. The dough should not stick to your hands; add more flour if needed.
- Shape the Pastries: Take small portions of dough (about the size of a walnut), roll them in your palm, and slightly flatten them to shape. You can add some cheese inside if you prefer.
- Prepare for Baking: Place the shaped poğaças on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Brush the tops with egg yolk and sprinkle with sesame or black cumin seeds if desired.
- Bake: Bake in a preheated oven at 180°C (350°F) until the poğaças are golden brown on top, about 20-25 minutes.
- Serve: Let them cool slightly and serve warm or at room temperature.
